Message from Mayor Madden: Making the Most of Spring
As we move further away from the social shackles of the pandemic we are at once inspired, even motivated, by an early glimpse of spring. For me there is a real sense of renewal and revitalization from all the hardships and life-altering tribulations as a consequence of this scourge.
Some enjoy the exhilaration of opening day baseball, others wait for the advent of the arrival of crocuses, still others look forward to the preparation and enjoyment of outdoor activities. The common theme here is that we all have our own personal “carpe diem’ event, and now is the time to accomplish it.
This overarching thread is so much more significant to each of us now compared to years ago and probably for many decades to follow due to Covid. Let’s make the most of it and enjoy.
A Difficult Decision
I guess this is as good an opportunity to make an announcement in which most residents are now aware. After much deliberation and discussions with my wife, I have decided that I will not seek a second term as mayor. This was a difficult decision considering the many accomplishments that were made during my term. The difficult task of reassembling the broken pieces left by my predecessor when I started including all the effort and time spent in achieving such industry was daunting. I have been rewarded to have worked with such a great and supportive staff among others. Myself and our council have been working diligently to make quality decisions for the benefit of our residents. Our Police Department has delivered a wonderful quality of life to us, our “Hallmark” town.
The most significant reason for not running is that we have recently (now 7 months) acquired full permanent custody of our grandson, Tanner. He just turned 5 years of age and is faced with a multitude of issues including cerebral palsey, spinal stenosis, hip displeasure, a shunt in his brain due to brain bleeds some visual issues, a feeding tube among other challenges. He doesn’t walk and is non-verbal. To date he has endured 11 serious operations with more on the horizon. He is truly a fighter.

Barbara and I feel privileged to have this opportunity to provide as nourishing an environment for the little guy as much as possible. We can appreciate what other parents (and grandparents) must deal with each waking day.
I plan on continuing to participate in some capacity in town. I will provide more information regarding my time in office, so stay tuned. Thank you all for your support most of all.
