Volunteer William “Bill” San Phillips, Recreation Department
Bill San Phillips, despite lacking prior coaching experience, selflessly coached his great nephew’s team for the past several years. At the conclusion of his inaugural T-ball season, he returned expressing gratitude for the Recreation Department’s encouragement to take on the coaching role. This past season he tried his hand at helping to coach his nephew’s 3/4 grade basketball team. The Recreation Department affectionately calls him “Uncle Bill” due to his selfless dedication to the children of Middlesex.
We asked Bill two questions and he graciously responded to both! First, “What advice would you give to someone who is interested in volunteering?”
“It’s a great experience. When I look back on my life it’s up there as one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences.”
“What do you enjoy most about volunteering?“
“For me it’s seeing the kids discover the joy of playing baseball. The look on their faces when they catch and hit a baseball for the first time is amazing. Sports is a great way for children to learn life lessons in a fun and healthy way. I love that I am a part of the joy they feel being part of a team, making new friends and trying their best.”
The Recreation Department extends its heartfelt appreciation to all our dedicated volunteers – your invaluable contributions are the backbone of our success.
